Facebook ad cost in 2026: CPM, CPC and CPA by industry, and what to budget
What Facebook ads cost in 2026: the median CPM, CPC and CPA on Meta, the cost per acquisition by industry, how the auction sets your price, and how much budget a test needs.
"How much do Facebook ads cost?" has a frustrating official answer: as much as you decide to spend. Meta lets you start with a dollar a day, and it never charges more than the budget you set. That is true, and it tells you nothing about what one click, one thousand views or one customer will cost you.
Those prices do exist, and they are measurable. This guide gives you the 2026 medians for CPM, CPC and CPA on Meta, the cost per purchase by industry, how the auction decides your price, and how much budget a test needs before its numbers mean anything.
How much do Facebook ads cost in 2026?
On Meta in 2026, the median brand pays about $15 to show an ad 1,000 times, about $0.63 for a click and about $39 for a purchase. Those numbers come from Triple Whale's Meta ads benchmarks, built from more than 40,000 brands between August 2025 and July 2026 (Triple Whale, 2026).
| Metric | August 2025 to July 2026 | A year earlier | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) | $15.06 | $13.30 | +13.24% |
| CTR (click-through rate) | 2.39% | 2.06% | +15.97% |
| CPC (cost per click, our calculation) | about $0.63 | about $0.65 | about -2% |
| CPA (cost per purchase) | $38.99 | $37.80 | +3.14% |
| Average order value | $73.36 | $70.88 | +3.50% |
Triple Whale does not publish a median CPC, so the CPC row is our arithmetic: CPM divided by 1,000 impressions times the click-through rate. $15.06 ÷ (1,000 × 2.39%) is $0.63.
What this means for a DTC brand: reach got 13% more expensive in a year, but clicks got slightly cheaper, because every thousand views produced more clicks. The CPM is set by the market. The click-through rate comes from your ad.

CPM spreads almost as wide. In the same data, Health & Wellness paid the highest median CPM at $21.80, and Baby the lowest at $11.50. A dollar in Health & Wellness buys a little over half the views it buys in Baby.

Add as preferred sourceHow does Meta decide what you pay?
You do not pay a fixed price. Every time someone could see an ad, Meta runs an auction between the advertisers who want that person, and your price comes out of that auction.
What wins the auction?
Meta picks the ad with the highest total value, which combines three things (Meta Business Help Center, About ad auctions):
- Your bid, set by you or by Meta's automatic bidding.
- The estimated action rate, Meta's prediction of how likely this person is to take the action you optimize for.
- Ad quality, judged partly on what people do with the ad and partly on low-quality signals such as engagement bait or withheld information.
The highest bid does not always win. An ad that people are likely to click and buy from can beat a higher bid with a weaker ad, and it often pays less to do it.
What this means for a DTC brand: the estimated action rate and ad quality both come from the ad itself. The creative is part of the price.
What is the minimum you can spend?
Meta's own guidance for ad sets charged on impressions is a daily budget of at least $1, and if you use a cost cap, a daily budget of at least five times that cap (Meta Business Help Center, Best practices for minimum budgets). Those are the floors at which an ad set delivers at all. They are far below what a test needs.
Why does the same ad cost more in some months?
More advertisers in the same auction push the price up. Retail brands raise spend for Black Friday and the holidays, so the fourth quarter puts more advertisers in the same auctions. A narrow audience costs more than a broad one for the same reason: fewer people, more advertisers bidding for each of them.
How much budget does a test need?
Enough for Meta to learn. An ad set leaves the learning phase after about 50 optimization events in the week after its last significant edit. If it is unlikely to get there, Meta marks it as "Learning limited" (Meta Business Help Center, About learning limited).
With purchases as the event and the median CPA of $38.99, 50 purchases a week cost about $1,950, or about $280 a day for one ad set. Here is what smaller budgets buy at the 2026 medians:
| Daily budget | Impressions a day | Clicks a day | Purchases a week | Leaves learning? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $20 | about 1,330 | about 32 | about 3.6 | No |
| $50 | about 3,320 | about 79 | about 9 | No |
| $100 | about 6,640 | about 159 | about 18 | No |
| $280 | about 18,600 | about 444 | about 50 | Yes |
Impressions use the $15.06 CPM, clicks the 2.39% CTR, and purchases the $38.99 CPA.
If $280 a day per ad set is out of reach, do not spread a small budget over many ad sets. Run one ad set, and optimize for an event that happens more often, such as add to cart, until the account can afford purchase optimization.

What makes Facebook ads cheaper?
Mostly, the ad itself. A better ad raises the estimated action rate and the click-through rate at once, so it wins more auctions and needs fewer impressions per click.
Test different angles
Three ads that say three different things teach you more than ten ads with a different button color. These three Selzee-made ads sell the same jewelry brand three ways: an everyday lifestyle shot, a quote about trends, and a phone-call format.

If one angle clearly earns a lower cost per click, the next batch builds on that angle. If none does, check the offer and the landing page next.
Borrow formats that already work
A format that wins for one brand can work for another. The phone-call layout in the third PDPAOLA ad shows up in this Selzee-made ad for Finelly as well, rebuilt for an app that tracks the bill and the late fines at a group dinner.

Fix the cheapest problem first
| Symptom | Likely cause | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| High CPM, normal CTR | Narrow audience or busy season | Go broader, or wait out the peak |
| Normal CPM, low CTR | The ad does not stop the scroll | New hooks and new angles |
| Good CTR, high CPA | Landing page or offer | Fix the page before the ads |
| Costs rise week after week on one ad | The audience has seen it too often | Rotate in a new creative |

How Selzee helps you lower your Facebook ad cost
If the creative sets a large part of the price, the fastest way to pay less is to test more good ads. That is the part Selzee does.
Selzee reads what your competitors run in the Meta, TikTok, Google and Pinterest ad libraries, next to what is winning across your market, and recreates those winning ads for your brand, with your products, logo, fonts and colors. Each ad comes with the angle and the insight it is built on, so every test answers a clear question. You approve the ads you like and ship them to your ad accounts in one click.
Facebook ad cost: FAQ
How much do Facebook ads cost per day?
You choose the daily budget, and Meta suggests at least $1 a day for ad sets charged on impressions. A test that should exit the learning phase on purchases needs about 50 purchases a week, which at the 2026 median CPA of $38.99 is about $280 a day per ad set.
How much does a Facebook ad cost per click?
About $0.63 at the 2026 medians, from a $15.06 CPM and a 2.39% click-through rate in Triple Whale's data for August 2025 to July 2026. Your own CPC depends on your industry, your audience and how often people click your ad.
How much does it cost to reach 1,000 people on Facebook?
The median CPM on Meta was $15.06 from August 2025 to July 2026, per Triple Whale. It ranged from $11.50 in the Baby category to $21.80 in Health & Wellness It tends to rise when retail brands spend for Black Friday and the holidays.
Why are my Facebook ads so expensive?
Usually for one of three reasons: a narrow audience that many advertisers want, a season such as Black Friday when more brands bid, or an ad that people rarely click, which loses auctions to better ads. Check your CTR first, because it is the one you can fix fastest.
Is $10 a day enough for Facebook ads?
$10 a day is enough to get an ad seen, about 660 impressions a day at the median CPM. It is not enough to optimize for purchases, because the ad set will not reach 50 purchases a week. Use it for a reach or traffic test, or optimize for a more frequent event.
The short version
On Meta in 2026, the median brand pays about $15 per 1,000 impressions, $0.63 per click and $39 per purchase, with a wide spread by industry. The auction prices your ad on your bid, how likely people are to act and the ad's quality, so better creative lowers what you pay. Budget for about 50 conversions per ad set per week, or optimize for a more frequent event until you can.
